B.O.: More 'Money' in the bank
Lionsgate's Katherine Heigl starrer 'One for the Money' is expected to take between $13 and $15 million for the weekend.Open Road's 'The Grey' leads the B.O. pack and should gross between $15 million and $17 million for the weekend. While Open Road's wolf adventure pic "The Grey" is looking on track to win the weekend box office, early Friday B.O. estimates for Lionsgate's "One for the Money" are delivering something of a surprise. Midweek tracking had put Katherine Heigl starrer "One" in the $5 million-$7 million range through Sunday. But Friday afternoon grosses -- boosted in large part by a special from coupon website Groupon -- show the pic angling to rake in between $13 million and $15 million over the weekend frame. "The Grey" is on a pace to take in between $5 million and $6 million on Friday, putting it in line to earn between $15 million and $17 million for the weekend. That means that Summit's "Man on a Ledge" will likely take third place among the trio of openers. Box office observers estimate "Ledge" to earn between $2 million and $2.5 million Friday, positioning the Sam Worthington-toplined action thriller to earn $6 million to $8 million through Sunday. Summit also offered an online deal for "Ledge" through the Living Social site, but tracking as of Friday afternoon doesn't show the pic earning more than data had indicated earlier this week. Meanwhile, Screen Gems' holdover "Underworld: Awakening" is likely to be down by about 60% in its soph sesh, putting the fourth installment in the vampire vs. werewolves franchise in line to earn around $10 million. 'Star Trek 2' Starts On Thursday, Teases Benedict Cumberbatch's Role
"Star Trek 2" is coming! "Star Trek 2" is coming! Forgive our enthusiasm, but come on: it's been a long wait for a sequel to the 2009 relaunch, but according to director J.J. Abrams, things are finally getting off the ground. In an interview with Collider, Abrams revealed a bunch of new details about the film, with the important note that shooting officially starts on Thursday. He also dishes about a few other things, like the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch ("We just were looking for someone with the most awesome name in history") and the recent announcement that the film would be released in 3D. According to Abrams, 3D wasn't his first choice. "I did not fight for the 3D. It was something that the studio wanted to do, and I didnt want to do it. And then, when I saw the first movie converted in sections, I thought that it actually looked really cool," he said. "So, I was okay with their doing it, as long as I could shoot the movie the way I wanted to, in anamorphic film, and then let them convert it. So, those who want to see it in 3D, which looked pretty cool, can do it, and those that want to see it in 2D can do that too." Abrams also teased that despite popular opinion, Cumberbatch might not be the bad guy of "Star Trek 2." "Who said he's our villain?" he teased. "Hes a genius. Honestly, hes just an incredible actor. If youve seen his work in Sherlock, hes just got incredible skills. Hes an amazing stage actor. He did amazing work (on stage) in Frankenstein. Hes brilliant. You try to cast people who are great. We got lucky." In other news, actress Nazneen Contractor ("24") was just cast as the wife to Noel Clarke's character. Clarke, recently cast and most known for his work on "Doctor Who," is supposedly playing a "family man with a wife and young daughter," which could mean a lot of different things. With so many actors coming in from television, we're excited to see how the ensemble fills out. What do you think of the "Star Trek" news? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
First look at Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace
Entertainment Weekly have revealed the first official image of Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace, but fear not, it's safe for work.Seyfried is playing Lovelace (real name Linda Boreman) in biopic Lovelace, which traces the disturbing story of the porn superstar who became all but a household name with the breakout success of Deep Throat. The darker side of the ordeal was later unveiled as Boreman quit pornography and revealed that her husband Chuck Traynor had forced her into the industry with beatings and gunpoint threats.Without her trademark blond locks, Seyfried is surprising hard to recognise, while Peter Sarsgaard (seen here with a seedy sideburns-and-tache combo) plays Traynor.Howl directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman are directing Lovelace, and Demi Moore, Adam Brody, Eric Roberts and Juno Temple co-star.Malin Akerman (Watchmen) is starring in a rival Lovelace biopic (Inferno), which is written and directed by Matthew Wilder and co-stars Matt Dillon as Traynor.Lovelace is expected to open at some point later this year.
